Our Australian wine expert, Dan Parrott, has uncovered something really special – the cure for the common Pinot Grigio, brought to you by a winemaking family with a long history rooted in good wine (and good medicine).
Dr. William Thomas Angove began making wine in 1886 – five-generations later, his name continues to be a byword for quality, with dozens of 90+ point scores from prestigious wine publications and an “outstanding” 5-star estate rating from top Aussie wine critic, James Halliday.
For this “angelic” Pinot Grigio release (the exclusive resurrection of a brand the family introduced in the 1950s), head winemaker Tony Ingle used fruit grown in the Angoves’ Nanya Vineyard, where the brilliant Aussie sunshine gives Pinot Grigio grapes an extra measure of ripeness. And thanks to the hotter- and drier-than-normal 2016 harvest, flavor intensity was through the roof.
Look for all the freshness and vibrancy you’d get from a northern Italian Pinot Grigio, but with a fuller, more rounded quality – look forward to layers of yellow peach, Golden Delicious apple, fresh pears and more, plus a whistle-clean finish that will keep you coming back for sip after sip.
