Tucked away on Southeastern Australia’s famed Limestone Coast, Padthaway is an up-and-coming hot spot for high-end wines at wallet-friendly prices. It’s also where some of the biggest names in Aussie wine have planted vineyards – like Penfolds and Browns of Padthaway.
This family-owned outfit has been here since 1970 and are known for their quality-driven approach – a philosophy that’s seen them scoop big acclaim from the likes of Decanter magazine (who recently placed them on their list of the “21 Hottest Wineries to Watch”) and Australian wine expert, James Halliday.
Their lusciously creamy and balanced “Family Reserve” Chardonnay is a tribute to Melba Lillian, granddaughter of one of the first settlers in South Australia and mother of the estate’s founder, Glenda Brown. Halliday rated a previous release a stunning 95 points:
“Bright, showing green-yellow colour as a portent of things to come; this is Padthaway Chardonnay at its best, with elegant grapefruit and nectarine aromas and flavors, the oak integrated and balanced.”
You can expect more of the same class and flavor intensity from the just-landed 2016 – but you’ll want to hurry before all our other thirsty Chardonnay fans snap it up!
