Welcome to the southern Rhône, where 2015 was one of finest vintages in recent memory. We’re particularly thrilled for you to taste this exclusive Grenache-Syrah, especially if you happen to be a history buff.
Château Crillon is owned by France’s Duke of Gramont, who is descended from Louis des Balbes de Berton de Crillon – aka “Crillon the Brave,” praised by King Henry IV as the greatest military commander of them all.
The vineyards surrounding his medieval château are perched 1,100 feet up, an enviable (and chilly) altitude at the base of Mount Ventoux that gives the grapes a long, slow ripening period. This translates to big, big flavors in the glass which, thanks to the superb 2015 vintage in the Rhône, are even more concentrated and delicious.
As you’ll taste, the château’s talented winemaker, Julien Darricau, really made the most of nature’s bounty. Enjoy an inviting, perfumed nose of black fruit, spice and garrigue (wild herbs). The palate is soft, fruity and juicy with delicate, peppery spice on the finish. Perfect with crispy duck breast or daube de boeuf, a hearty Provençal casserole.
