We’re thrilled to bring you our first Greek wine. Greece has produced delicious wines for over 4,000 years, and today, winemakers are “fashioning high-quality wines from their cornucopia of native grapes” (Wine Spectator). And this rich, barrel-aged Reserve is your perfect introduction – it scooped silver at the 2015 Berliner Wein Trophy and has been chosen as an Ambassador for Greek Wine by the 2015 New Wines of Greece Campaign, which aims to introduce Greece's top-quality selections to the larger wine world.
Dodeka takes its name from the 12 Greek gods who lived on Mount Olympus, and is hand-harvested on the slopes of the legendary mountain. The renowned Tsantali family (one of the first Greek wine families) carefully hand tend their vines, which benefit from warm days and cool ocean breezes that ripen the fruit to perfection.
Xinomavro, the star native grape in Dodeka, is often likened to Barolo for its stunning aroma and huge aging potential. Here, it’s softened by Stavroto and given extra body by berry-rich Krassato. Our Eastern European expert calls this divine blend “Barolo meets Bordeaux under sunny Greek skies.”
It’s a beautifully balanced red, brimming with juicy raspberry, ripe blackberry and rich plum flavors. Twelve months’ aging in French and American oak barrels (plus another 12 months in bottle) adds further complexity to hints of spice and licorice. Sip with lamb dishes or creamy mushroom risotto.
We were only able to get our hands on a few cases of ‘the Wine of the Gods.’ Secure your taste today and serve to friends who normally stick to Barolo or Bordeaux.
