“Everybody’s talking about how fantastic today’s best Sicilian wines are,” writes Decanter – especially the 2015s, which arrive hot on the heels of the equally stellar 2014 vintage. What a great time to be a Sicilian wine fan – and once you get a taste of this super-rich Cabernet, we bet you’ll rave about this island’s wines, too.
Exclusive i Corleonesi is crafted by the talented Leonardo Urso, whose top wines can fetch $80-plus a bottle. To make it, Leonardo headed to his favorite vineyard sites, high up in the mountains around the Lago Arancio, where brilliant sunshine and cooling breezes help produce some of Sicily’s (and, Leonardo argues, Italy’s) finest Cabernet. Back in the winery, he aged a portion of the wine in French oak barrels to add complexity and depth of flavor.
Here’s Leonardo on what to expect in the glass:
“This delicious wine is a deep purple-red, with layered aromas and flavors of ripe cherries, red berries, and black currants, wrapped around firm, rounded tannins. The finish is long, with touches of vanilla, chocolate, and black pepper.”
