Secret deal signed with iconic, 100-point estate
The call came out of the blue. It was the winemaker at one of Napa's most iconic estates – with 400 cases of their 2013 Merlot available for a quick sale. With such high quality and high yields in the vintage, tank space was short, they explained. Too bad for the winery, but great news for you …
We were offered an amazing price, with two conditions. The first, they needed payment upfront. Done. The second, a non-disclosure agreement had to be signed. This is a winery with multiple 100-Point scores from über critic Robert Parker and a high-price reputation to protect – their Merlot normally costs $55 and their Cabs simply aren't seen below $80. But today you'll pay far less ...
2013 is a collector's vintage in Napa Valley
Sure, the 2012 vintage was pretty special, but ask anyone and they'll tell you 2013 is even better. Parker notes that "2013 provided classic, virtually textbook-perfect weather conditions." And after a recent tasting, Antonio Galloni called Napa's 2013 reds "majestic wines of the highest level." We have just 450 cases of this delicious Merlot, and it could be years before a better deal comes along.
The wine has spent 13 months in expensive French oak barrels; look forward to concentrated, complex aromas of ripe plum and creamy mocha, with opulent dark-fruit flavors, toasty oak notes and seriously silky tannins.
Blink and you'll miss it. This fine Napa Merlot is likely to sell out in days, if not hours.
