This Malbec comes from South Africa's historic (and stunning) Spier Estate (where they've been making wines since the laste 1600s). Their talented winemaker, Lizanne Jordaan, is something of a Malbec dynamo who loves nothing more than proving the world's top examples aren't just from Argentina.
Lizanne used fruit grown near the estate's North Bank (home to Spier's award-winning hotel) and aged just a third of the wine in French oak for six months, imparting a delicate, spicy complexity. Just like its Argentine counterparts, it's brimful of concentrated, rich black fruits. As you would expect, it's great with steak, but has a refreshing quality that keeps you coming back for more.
