Malbec is the star red grape of Argentina – and in the premium Mendoza subregion of San Rafael, it reaches new levels of quality. As Facundo Pereyra, Soñador’s winemaker, told Decanter, “Malbec from San Rafael achieves excellent expressions of fresh fruit, harmonious tannins, good volume and concentration with outstanding balance and elegance.”
Current estate owner Raúl Bianchi named Soñador (‘dreamer’) after his grandfather, who worked for decades before achieving his dream of owning a winery. Founded in 1928, Casa Bianchi is one of the most respected and highly acclaimed estates in Argentina. Most notably, it was the first Argentine winery to receive the ‘World’s Best Red Wine’ Grand Trophy, the top award at Paris’ Vinalies Internationales, for its 2012 Malbec Reserva. Soñador comes from the same vineyard – and just won a big medal at The Drinks Business Malbec Masters Competition.
Here’s Raúl on what to expect in the glass:
“Crafted from the fruit of some of our best Malbec vines, this is a deeply colored wine, with ripe bramble and spice notes, firm, velvety tannins and a charming ripe fruit finish. Please decant and enjoy with barbecued steaks, slow-cooked lamb shanks and herby eggplant bake.”
As with all of our top-estate wines, this deliciously rich Malbec is made in tiny batches. Order soon to secure your share.
