A tribute to the mythical warrior queen who gave California its name, this is a sumptuous find every Cab fan needs to try …
Califia is an exclusive for our customers, crafted by 30-vintage veteran and former Paso Robles Winemaker of the Year Clay Brock. Last vintage, it won a coveted medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition, and we think the 2015 release is every bit as delicious.
Clay sourced the grapes from prime-sited vineyards throughout Lodi and Paso Robles (Wine Enthusiast’s 2015 and 2013 Regions of the Year, respectively) – both of which produced standout harvests in 2015. After night-harvesting the grapes to lock in freshness, Clay gave the wine a luxurious, 16-month slumber in fine French and American oak barrels to impart further complexity to the lush, dark-fruit flavors.
In the glass, Califia bursts with ripe blueberry, blackberry and cherry, plus hints of chocolaty spice, thanks to the barrel aging. While it’s drinking deliciously now (especially when served with rosemary-roasted beef ribs or spicy chorizo), the aromas and flavors will continue to develop for a few more years.
