Loved for its racy, red-berry and zesty-spice character, Zinfandel is California’s red specialty. Few do it better than DeLoach, the 12-time Wine & Spirits Winery of the Year run by the visionary Jean-Charles Boisset. For their Private Collection Zinfandel, star winemaker Brian Maloney visited their premium estate vineyards across Sonoma County, where you find some of the state’s oldest vines – they’re miserly in yield, but famed for the intensely concentrated flavors they yield in the glass.
Crafted using DeLoach’s sustainable winemaking practices, this ruby-purple gem offers a complex nose of ripe red berry, white and black pepper and lively herbs. Look for more dark fruit on the palate, with spicy oak notes to frame the smooth, mouthfilling texture. Try it with meaty pastas or a juicy garlic roast lamb. Or, go for winemaker Brian’s favorite pairing: balsamic-glazed pork chops.
