Raymond Vineyards is one of Napa’s most historic estates, owned by Burgundy’s visionary Jean-Charles Boisset. Robert Parker has certainly heaped on the praise recently, too:
“One of the iconic pioneers and historic producers in Napa, this estate was founded by the Raymond family in Rutherford in 1970 … .Today, the property is under the ownership of Frenchman and Burgundian, Jean-Charles Boisset, who has committed all of their vineyards (comprising more than 300 acres) to organic, or biodynamic, farming. The quality of the wines has soared under Boisset’s helmsmanship. Much to his credit, Raymond Vineyards has returned to the fold as one of the benchmark, classic estates in all of Napa.”
Lending Jean-Charles a skilled hand in the cellar is Stephanie Putnam, past Cabernet of the Year winner (The Wine News). She’s helped build the reputations of famous Napa estates like Far Niente and Hess – so she knows a thing or two about world-class Cab. Her acclaimed Prodigal Cab hails from top-sited North Coast vineyards and California’s highly praised 2015 vintage.
Look for a dark ruby in the glass, followed by sumptuous characters of black currant, white pepper and warm vanilla oak. With firm tannins and a smooth finish, it’s your perfect match for hearty red meats – go for strip steak, roast rack of lamb or Jean-Charles’ favorite pairing, traditional daube de boeuf (French beef stew).
