While we love Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc as much as the next wine fan, we’re always on the lookout for cool, new whites – and we can’t wait for you to try our latest discovery. Hailing from California’s superb 2015 vintage (another in a string of seriously impressive harvests), it’s a vibrant Grenache Blanc. Best-known as the star of opulent white Châteauneuf, this rare grape takes on a delicious ripeness in sunny California – just wait until you taste it.
This lovely example is crafted by Tangent Estate and our friend Christian Roguenant, their Burgundy-born, Champagne-trained star winemaker. Located in the premium Edna Valley, Tangent Estate was established to bring U.S. wine lovers refreshingly different whites (think Albariño, Viognier, and yes, Grenache Blanc), and Christian is the region’s preeminent white wine expert.
Fun fact about the Edna Valley: unlike most California valleys, it’s orientated in a rare, east-west formation. The setup’s perfect for welcoming cooling ocean breezes and allowing morning fog to roll through the vineyards. Both factors help grapes ripen early and stay on the vine longer, which translates to more concentrated, aromatic flavors in your glass.
After selecting the ripest fruit from the prized Paragon Vineyard, Christian left this ‘Block Selection’ unoaked and sealed it under screwcap to lock in its fresh, pure-fruited character. Look forward to enticing aromas and flavors of ripe peach, apple and grapefruit. The palate is crisp and smooth, with a refreshing mineral streak on the finish – perfect for meaty fish, grilled chicken or roasted vegetables.
Christian’s whites are very popular with our customers, and we have limited cases to share. Go off on a Tangent today!
