French Macaroons and French Champagne, both luxurious treats and two of my favorite things. The soft, delicate crunch of the macaroon with its chewy, nutty center filled with sweet frosting is heaven in your mouth. Sip that down with a quality Brut Sparkling wine and your taste buds will dance, and you just might, too! Tropical, delicate, yeasty nutty notes from most quality French sparkling wines will pair just right. I have chosen this bargain Cremant de Limoux for its historic background and the quality for the price.

2011 Brut Sparkling Roche Lacour - Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cremant de Limoux, France

2011 Brut Sparkling Roche Lacour- Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, Cremant de Limoux, France

Monks in this region claim to have mastered “Methode Traditionelle” sparkling wine methods in 1531, centuries before Dom Perignon in Champagne. Since Limoux does not have the right to calling their sparkling wine “Champagne” the price in the market is lower. Limoux, France is in a cooler climate in the high corner of southern Languedoc. The restricted amount of yields for this particular region offers high quality assurance.

Tasting notes- This brilliant, lemon green hued wine is bursting with big bubbles! Notes of green mango, lemon, creamy coconut and dry green apple minerality are present. This brut wine does have a few grams of residual sugar that is evident on the palate and is quite a pleasant surprise. Subtle notes of fresh clipped grass on the long finish are reminiscent of a beautiful summer day.

Frankly, there is no event that requires macaroons and champagne, so any day is suitable. Order this sparkling wine for $24.99!
